TASTING
A high, keen orchid fragrance, with a signature wild-mushroom note of striking distinctness.

Soft and tongue-pressing, a lasting rock-sugar sweetness, a strong tea energy with a clear body sensation.
At about 800m, roughly 100 years old, from the April 2023 batch — two years aged. Xigui's style is called the "Banzhang of Lincang": it has the commanding tea energy of Banzhang, yet a singularly soft body and a mushroom note — a low-altitude mountain that has grown the force of a high one. The aroma is high and keen, highly recognisable — the young tea carries a rich orchid fragrance, and, most distinctive of all, a wild-mushroom "mushroom aroma," the signature mark of Xigui, with a lasting scent at the bottom of the cup. The entry is soft, low in bitterness and astringency and quick to fade; the body is thick and full, the flow fine, with the tongue-pressing feel of thin rice broth; the sweetness is high, with a lasting "rock-sugar sweetness." Mouth-watering and returning sweetness come fast, a full sweet return like a spring welling up, the tea energy strong, the body sensation clear.

SPECIFICATION

- Type
- Raw Pu-erh · Workshop No.1 series
- Spec
- 500g · batch 2023.04.18
- Region
- Yunnan · Lincang · Xigui
- Craft
- Sun-dried: after withering, fixing and rolling, the leaf is dried in sunlight, keeping its activity — to drink now or to age.
- Water temperature
- 90–95°C; batches aged for years can take boiling water directly
- Brewing
- We suggest a 110ml porcelain gaiwan with 5g of leaf, boiling water in and out quickly: pour off at once for the first steeps, then lengthen each infusion. Young tea for freshness, aged tea for longer steeping; it endures many infusions.
